HOW WE THINK ABOUT HOW YOU LEaD
“It’s not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.” ~ Bear Bryant
Our belief that leadership is a practice, not a task, shapes our philosophy and approach. We believe in collaboration, not instruction, and work alongside leaders to help them develop their skills and reach their goals. We provide guidance and support, but ultimately hold them accountable for their own development.
We believe that, like any other skill, leadership can be improved with focused practice and dedication.
THIS IS PERSONAL
As an organization focused on people, we pride ourselves on our expertise and focus in the area of leadership development. However, we recognize that you, not us, are the expert on leading your people. Our programs are designed to help you increase your self-awareness and awareness of others, and provide you with the tools and support you need to become a more effective and impactful leader in your organization. We believe that by providing the mechanisms for you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and others, you will be better equipped to lead your team to success.
Just because you hand me a hammer does not make me a carpenter.
Our focus is on the leader as an individual, not just on leadership as a concept. We recognize that the person doing the leading is just as important as the tools and techniques they use, and our programs are designed to support and develop the whole person, not just their leadership skills. By focusing on the human being who is leading, rather than just the tools they have at their disposal, we create more effective and impactful leaders.
TRANSFORMING LEADERSHIP FROM A CONCEPT TO AN ACTION
There are many leadership assessments available on the market today, and while some of these assessments provide valuable insights, they may not always be effective in helping leaders improve their skills. At Aphesis, we recognize that an assessment is only as useful as a person’s ability to put its insights into action.
We use the EQ 360® assessment, a scientifically valid and reliable instrument, to identify attributes of Transformational Leadership and our proprietary Time Analysis process to assess a person’s capacity for this style of leadership. This allows us to provide leaders with an Actual Effective Influence (AEI) score, which reflects their real-world impact as a leader and takes into account their present-state capability and capacity.
By providing a more complete picture of a person’s leadership skills, we help leaders become more effective in their roles.
WE WORK BY REDUCING THE TENSION BETWEEN PEOPLE AND DATA
In all our programs, we aim to make historically subjective aspects of leadership, often referred to as “soft skills”, more objective and data-backed. However, this does not mean that we take a cold, data-first approach. Instead, we use data to create an accountability structure that allows leaders to grow and develop.
Our process is designed to take into account the unique characteristics of each leader we work with, while leveraging data to help them become more effective leaders.
DATA
Data is incredibly valuable and the best decisions are driven by it. At the same time, data is objective, lacks emotion, and lacks the ability to lead on its own. We believe that the best decisions are made by combining the insights provided by data with the emotional intelligence and leadership capabilities of people.
THERE IS A DUALITY THAT EXISTS BETWEEN PEOPLE AND DATA
PEOPLE
People are the opposite of data in many ways. They are full of emotion, incredibly complex, and subjective. Unlike data, people have the ability to lead others. However, their subjectivity can lead to poor decision making if not properly guided by objective data. By combining the insights provided by data with the emotional intelligence and leadership capabilities of people, we help leaders make more informed and effective decisions.
QUANTITATIVE MEASURES OF LEADERSHIP
Most leadership assessments do not take into account the element of time, which can result in an incomplete picture of an organization’s leadership capabilities. This produces blind spots creating severe financial implications for future growth.
At Aphesis, we strive to bring clarity to these blind spots by analyzing leaders not only from an emotional intelligence (EQ) perspective, but also from a time utilization perspective. This allows us to provide insights into not just their capability to lead, but their capacity to do so as well.
By taking into account both EQ and time, we offer a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of a leader’s potential effectiveness.
